Zuri’s Story

Zuri came into the Maury County shelter as a stray. One of the animal control officers found her wrapped in a blanket and lying in a ditch. She was so emaciated and dehydrated that she could hardly stand. The videos were heartbreaking. C.A.R.E. immediately said “yes!” to helping Zuri and she was transported north the very next morning.

She weighed a mere 13 lbs and her waist was so small you could easily wrap your hands around it. She was believed to be a 2 year old husky mix, so she was clearly critically underweight.

When she arrived to the rescue she was immediately placed into a foster home who gave her round the clock care. Zuri didn’t have the strength to help herself so she needed fluids, meds and many small meals every couple of hours while her body began to recover. Zuri couldn’t even relieve herself without screaming in pain.

We don’t have any idea what her story is or how she ended up left to die in a ditch, but we’re so thankful that she was discovered in time and that one of our amazing rescue partners was willing to take on her care and give her a second chance at life. We’re told that for her to get to the condition she was in would have taken weeks of neglect and starvation.

Zuri started gaining her strength back, it was slow at first but each week she gained more weight and more sass!! The girl has such a personality. She adored the attention and TLC. She loved to walk around the house talking to anyone that would listen!! After months of care she was able to sustain a normal schedule and reached her healthy weight of 42 lbs. She was adopted by a wonderful family and is now a valued and cherished girl.
