Scout’s Story

Baby Scout

This little adorable nugget is Scout. Scout, like all too many unfortunate pups that find themselves in need of rescue, fell victim to a virus called Parvo. This is a virus that can strike any unvaccinated dog; however, it is especially hard on little puppies. He was immediately moved to a foster home that had experience treating parvo. After working very closely with the local vet for a handful of days, they determined the typical medications and treatment protocol was simply not enough to save little Scouts life.

In need of advanced care, little Scout was taken to a 24 hour emergency clinic where he was admitted and hospitalized for over a week!! Each day he fought for his life. The outcome was looking grim. The vets were rallying for him and pulling out all the tricks they could possibly think of to help get him stabilized. Thankfully he turned the corner right at the last minute and slowly started to respond & recover.

After spending far too long in the hospital, Scout was finally released and able to go back to his foster home! This puppy was a serious super trooper. He was on a mini-pharmacy of meds for awhile and had to ease back into normal feeding routines slowly but he was alive and getting stronger and spunkier every day!!!

His hospitalization and treatment cost his rescue over $10,000. Something as simple as properly vaccinating puppies with a vaccine that costs around $3 per dose can prevent this awful disease and save rescues huge sums of money that could be put to other use in saving more dogs. Yet we are incredibly grateful for dedicated rescues that are willing to do whatever it takes to save these precious lives!

After a few more weeks with his foster family, Scout had finally finished all his medications and reached a healthy weight. He was ready for adoption. It didn’t take long for the perfect family to come along. Scout now has 2 human siblings that love and adore him! He got his happy ending and is finally living the spoiled life he deserves!!
